The exterior of a building does more than create curb appeal.

Siding systems influence installation costs, long-term maintenance, weather resistance, and project schedules.

When reviewing commercial drawings, we often see contractors comparing material costs while overlooking installation complexity. Fiber cement panels, metal panels, EIFS systems, masonry veneer, and composite cladding all carry vastly different labor requirements.

A siding system that appears cheaper on paper may ultimately cost more once installation is considered.

For example, panelized metal systems typically install faster but often require additional, complex detailing around openings, window flashings, and transitions. If the building has many corners or window penetrations, the labor to cut and trim the metal panels can wipe out any material savings.
